Memory #5: Ka-blooey

I used to work a lot of shifts alone at the flower shop and, because of that, I used to get hit on an awful lot. One of my most favorite memories was the guy who listened to me yap about begonias and seemed genuinely interested.
I had no clue he was hitting on me, but he bought the plant and ran out the door...just as I noticed he wrote his name and phone number on the receipt.
I was flattered... until he drove by the front window holding the plant out his sunroof, honking wildly.

I never called.

Memory #4: KaBloom

The smell of flowers used to remind me of funerals...but until college when I needed a summer job.

While I was working on my double portfolio (illustration/ graphic design), I also worked full time at a flower store. It started out as a summer job, then turned into a manager position. Without any formal training, I was arranging flowers for weddings, first dates, funerals...you name it. Imagine that.

Eventually, the portfolio won and I had to leave my beloved flower store to pursue other dreams.
